Who I Am

Aloha! My name is Jamie Muskopf and I am the founder and principal consultant at Jamie Muskopf LLC. I have over 20 years of executive leadership experience in the fields of technology, knowledge management, and innovation. Some of my past roles include serving as the first civilian Knowledge Management Officer and special assistant to the Commander, United States Pacific Fleet, Project Manager at Microsoft Military Affairs, Program Manager at Defense Acquisition University, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, and Information Strategist at Nike. I am the lead lecturer for the graduate capstone course in the Master of Science in Information and Knowledge Strategy program at Columbia University in the City of New York.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a Master of Science in Information Systems from Hawaii Pacific University, and a Master of Science in Information and Knowledge Strategy from Columbia University. Inspired by the work I was fortunate to be a part of at Microsoft, I chose to pursue a Doctor of Social Work at the University of Southern California and earned my doctorate in 2020. While my masters’ work focused on knowledge management, artificial intelligence, and collaboration for innovative teams, my doctoral work focused on social innovation and designing an innovative approach to solving the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare sponsored Grand Challenge of Eradicating Social Isolation as it relates to suicide in the military community. My current post-doctoral studies center on Visual Social Work and the planning and production of an interactive documentary designed to build empathy for and change the narrative about military caregivers in the United States.

I am proud to be Kanaka ‘Ōiwi (Native Hawaiian), born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii then Burbank, California. I am blessed to be the spouse of Commander Brad Muskopf, United States Navy, of Belleville, Illinois. For more than a decade we have raised three creative and remarkably resilient children wherever the submarine force has sent us. Our current duty station is Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and we will relocate once again to Port Orchard, Washington in June 2023 where my husband will serve as the Commanding Officer for the USS NEBRASKA (Gold).

Why I Do This Work

I envision a future of work where:

  • leaders and organizations place people and planet before profit;

  • we profit from doing work that is aligned with clear, shared values;

  • success is measured by the outcomes and impact we create together;

  • we can show up with the best our WHOLE selves have to offer without leaving pieces of our identity at the door

The work of a knowledge strategist involves more than organizing data, information, and knowledge. It is work that opens the door to conversations about how we treat one another, include and collaborate with one another, how we learn, and how we grow.

My human-centered working style and approach to knowledge and innovation services might not be for everyone, but it is intended to include everyone. Optimizing processes and introducing technical solutions in organizations simply cannot be done with lasting success if the people involved in performing, shaping, and using those processes and solutions are not considered even before we begin our engagement.

I adopted the “Humble Consulting” approach because it is rooted in transdisciplinarity, community, implementation science, and equitable evaluation. This approach allows us to get to the root of organizational and leadership challenges together while honoring the complexities and capabilities of the humans who work to create your success.

How I Work

This is my third 4 star job and I actually had some knowledge managers in several of the three star assignments I’ve had prior to this, and I’ve had a knowledge management staff at each of my four star experiences. Until I came together with Jamie at Pacific Fleet, I would have been hard pressed to have had a serious discussion about knowledge management. My experience there was completely different from my previous experiences and it was spearheaded by Jamie, not by me, where her insights into what this profession can accomplish and her ability to link with the vision of some of our initiatives there enabled me to understand what this expertise can bring to a commander’s work like never before.
— Admiral Robert F. Willard, Commander, United States Pacific Command
Jamie is an exceptional learner, with a commitment for curiosity, ideas, and interaction. She is naturally adaptive and committed to successful outcomes. Jamie was one of the team members always bringing positive energy and collaborative spirit. We have recently become colleagues designing and teaching a program on navigating the future of work. She brings deep leadership knowledge of organization excellence, coupled with a natural and genuine warmth for working with teams.

If you ever have the opportunity to work, learn, or talk with Jamie, do it! She is an exceptional person who brings ideas and possibilities.
— Dr. Ed Hoffman, Chief Knowledge Officer, NASA
People are the greatest asset of any organization and at times the biggest reason why innovation and teamwork fails. In Jamie’s webinar on Innovation Dynamics I came to learn an alternative framework on how to observe and diagnose issues within my own team that could potentially hold us back from achieving our goals. This human-centered approach is a valuable tool for any industry leader or manager who values people, diversity, innovation, and success.
— Ashley Gleiman, PhD Senior Project Coordinator, Alternative Learning American Public University System
I am loving this. it’s so unique compared to the usual that we are used to hearing and this is so essential in how to approach communication with indigenous cultures and really just everyone. thank you for bringing her to us!!
— Attendee, Training for USDA Food and Nutrition Southwest Region
Best training i have had while at FNS... thank you for putting this together
— Attendee, Training for USDA Food and Nutrition Southwest Region
Jamie was very personable and knowledgeable about pitch desks and had a great example to share with us. I will be able go back and completely redo what I started to make it better.
— Entrepreneur, TRN Service to CEO Program
Jamie gave me great direction on where to go with my pitch deck. It especially resonated to determine who I am pitching to and what they need to hear from me (not necessarily specific to funding, etc).
